Why is it bad to top off your talk when you fill it up with gas?
My step mom and I were in the car and she was low on gas. Everytime she fills the car up, after the pump stops, she has to get the price to an even dollar. I have has always heard that topping off is bad. Is that true?
Really the only reason to stuff your tank full of fuel is figuring gas mileage for extended trips "if" you returned to the same station and pump location for a top-off refill. It doesn't matter how you fill the tank during the trip as long as you save the gas receipts which include gallons and tenths of gallons purchased.
I find myself doing the same thing and it's a stupid habit. Some cars have bad fuel delivery piping and pressure venting to the tank so if a fuel station pump delivers gas at a higher pressure. It's hard to fill the tank without the fuel handle tripping closed.
