what do i do if my baby guppies arent eting there crushed food flakes in there breeder tank?

i have had 2 die already.
there is extra food on the bottom of the feeder tank.
could i be feeding them to mush, if so how much should i?

When you have fry, you need to feed just a little at a time (remember their entire stomach and intestines are about 1/4 inch long), but you have to feed FREQUENTLY. Up to 6 times a day. You can also leave the lights on longer (some breeders leave it for 12-16 hours per day) since the fry only eat when there's light.

There may also be a problem with water quality if you have a lot of uneaten food at the bottom of their tank. When I raised bettas, I alsways kept a smaller snial in the fry tank to eat the excess food. The fecal pellets (poop) from the snail were easier to clean than the food itself. I used a stiff piece of airline tubing (like waht goes through the middle of an undergravel filter) attached to flexible tubing as a siphon to keep from catching the fry when I vacuumed the bottom.

You could also try feeding small amounts of frozen daphnia, cyclops, or baby brine shrimp as alternatives to crushed flakes, but you still need portion control. Only a little at a time. If you're raising the fry in a separate rearing tank, do you have gravel from the main tank? This often has microorganisms that the fry can eat, and the bacteria from the gravel will help control ammonia and nitrite in the fry tank. You can also get microorganisms on aquarium plants.
