Which thermometer is accurate?

Ok, I have a 10 gallon tank and i bought 3 aquarium heaters and the temp. was always 60F. None of the heaters kept the water at 75F. I bought my fourth heater (Visi-Therm) and a new digital thermometer, the ones you stick on the glass. The regular submersible thermometer says the water is 62F and the digital one says the water is 82F. I set the heater at 83F but i want to make sure the water is at a safe temp. for my betta fish. Which thermometer is accurate?

Something is seriously wrong if a heater won't heat a 10-gallon tank above 60 degrees F.
Are you sure the heater was plugged in and turned on?
If three or four different heaters all gave the same result, I do suspect that your thermometer is off.
Thermometers sold for aquarium use are notoriously inaccurate. When I go through a stack of thermometers in the pet shop, often they all show different temperatures. It's always a good idea to check one against another thermometer that is known to be accurate (which doesn't have to be an aquarium thermometer).

The "sticker" type of digital themometer isn't necessarily any more or less accurate than the more conventional types, but I don't like the sticker kind, because it measures the temperature of the outside of the glass, not of the water inside the tank, and these can be different by quite a bit.
