reef aquarium power tank and size help?
i have a 30x12x13 reef aquarium does anyone know how many gallon that is? And do i need a power head since i have a pretty big filter. It is for a 75 gallon tank and processed 350 gallon per hour. IT create a bit of a current near the top. Is it absolutely necessary to have one, will everything die if i dont?

The equation to determine volume is:
(Length x Width x Height) / 231
Using this calculation, you will find that a standard 75-gallon tank is actually a 74.81-gallon tank. To get an even truer volume, you need to take into account the thickness of the aquarium walls and subtract that from the dimensions (or just measure the interior of the tank).
Regarding the return pump, you want to turn the water over between 7 and 50 times an hour depending on what animals you plan to keep.
In terms of flow, more is almost always better, but it depends what you plan to keep. Many corals need strong flow more than high intensity lighting--people often forget this fact.
