Does a Geforce 5200FX (boxed with no fan) need any cooling at all?
Does a Geforce 5200FX (boxed with no fan) need any cooling at all?
because the last one i bought worked fine for 1 night then when i turned it on in the morning i tried playing san andreas and there where polygons sticking out everywhere, and on other games too, on some games it was just multi coulored dots everywhere and even on the windows is now shutting down screen there were a few red dots underneath,
i do not have any case fans just one cpu fan and the power supply fan
but i spoke to a computer dude and he says that if it does not come with a fan then it is designed to run ok without cooling? so could i have just got a faluty graphics card? or will i need cooling do you think?
Yes it does have a heatsink and i would say it does have enough room for ventilation, there is a vent in the side of my case, the motherboard runs at about 36c and processor at about 60c which is normal, but it does have a heatsink on it.
Some low-powered cards like the GeForceFX and Radeon 9000 series come in fanless versions- they are passively cooled by just a heatsink. But a fairly common defect for such cards is the manufacturer's heatsink not being mounted securely enough, which results in overheating.
I'd suspect that one is just faulty.
FYI: The GeForce 6200, Radeon HD2400 and Radeon X1550 are better performers than the FX5200.
