30 gallon tank and i want to start a marine reef aquarium,what do i need (equitment) and how do i start?
what type of filter, skimmer, heater etc is the best and most afordable any info will be awsome
You start by reading up on keeping marine aquariums and is best to do a lot of research before you dive in! I reccomend a book by mike paletta called "The New Marine Aquarium". it is a great beginers guide to a new marine aquarist.
As for what filter, skimmer, heater, ect...is best is really dependant on what you decide to keep. Some fish will have a much heavier bioload so there is a larger demand for nutrient export which means you will need better equipment to deal with the heavier bioload produced by the fish or introduced by you via feedings to meet the demands of the fish. For example a pair of clownfish in a 30 gallon will not need as much food or produce as large of a bioload as say a maculatus frogfish. Although a 30 gallon tank is a sufficent size to house either of these fish the frogfish will have a much heavier bioload so will have a higher demand for nutrient export. Personally i am a big fan of over skimming but other will debate the need to even use a protien skimmer. If i were you i would really do some reading and figure out what meathods you want to implement on your system because there are many conflicting ideas on how to keep a marine tank so knowing all of them so you can decide which route you wish to take is the best idea.
