Can my femal betta live with anyother fish besides a male betta?

I recently asked the question if my male betta was trying to kill my female betta. It now seems that he is. So my next question is since I have to remove my female betta from the tank, is she able to live with anyother fish? I have two other tanks, one has a gold fish and the other a angel fish. Would this work for her? Thank you very much! Merry Christmas!

female betas are much more docile that male betas but still a little feisty (they will often quarrel with other females but rarely with other fish). as long as they are not over-crowded they should be fine in any non-aggressive community aquarium, however be wary of putting them with aggressive or nippy fish. all betas, even the females, have long flowy fins and don't move very fast, that combined with there striking colors makes them prime targets for trouble making fish (like angels).

betas should not be kept with angel fish as the angel fish would harass the female an rip up her fins. goldfish are also not appropriate as betas are warm water fish.

it is also unlikely that your male beta was trying to kill your female beta. male betas rarely view females as invading their territory, but rather as part of their territory. if they were fighting it is more likely he was trying to mate with her than kill her (all betas fight while courting but in the wild females have more room to escape the male's attention). she actually safer with him than with your other fish. i'm not saying he couldn't kill her just that it's not his intention (the angel fish really would try to kill her).

if your tank is larger than 2 gallons (preferably 5-10 gallons) she will be able to escape from him with the aid of lots of plants and ornaments (one of those cheesy little pirate skulls is perfect). if you already have plenty of cover and she is still not able to escape him (some males are a little harder to shake) you could try a tank divider. a tank divider is probably your best bet, especially if you weren't intending to breed.

tank dividers are inexpensive and available at any well stocked pet supply store. the tank dividers are usually screens made in standard aquarium sizes but you could also cut one down if your tank is an odd shape. they are also clear acrylic dividers available for a crisper appearance. you could even get some glass/acrylic at a hardware store if you can't find any at a pet shop.
