Germicidal Light Lamp
Germicidal Light Lamp
Does a high power Black Light work as a GERMICIDAL LAMP?
I read in wiki that to kill germs, mold, fungus in the air or water. That 200nm-400mn wavelength is what works. Now a Black light is 350-400nm.
It might work, but poorly. The shorter wavelengths are more energetic, and do more damage to the micro-organisms. A good germicidal lamp will really damage your eyes, so if you want to experiment with this make sure that you aren't exposed to the bulb while it's on.

A germicidal UV lamp uses ultraviolet radiation to kill germs, viruses, bacteria, fungus, mold and other disease causing organisms that pass under the lamp light. Many air purifiers contain a UV lamp, these devices use a fan to drive the air under the lamp so the lamp can kill the germs in the air.
UV light radiation isn't harmful to people. The Centers for Disease Control recommends the use of such devices to prevent spread of disease including influenza. Persons with damaged immune systems, the elderly, caner patients, asthma sufferers, people with breathing problems and others who are prone to infections should use germicidal UV lamps in their homes to reduce their chances of getting sick.
Germs aren't the only things that they can remove from the air. The lamps also kill funguses including mold causing funguses that cause allergies.
Using a germicidal UV lamp alone won't clean up the air in your home because such a lamp only kills organisms. These lamps don't get rid of dust and other solid particle pollutants. They also don't take fumes such as smog, tobacco smoke and chemical fumes out of the air.
They also don't get rid of odors unless they're designed to produce ozone. Since ozone can sometimes make people sick this isn't always a good idea.
This means that UV light radiation needs to be combined with other air cleaning technologies to reduce or eliminate pollution in your home. These technologies include: HEPA air filters and air ionizers to take particle pollution out of the air, an activated carbon air filter to remove fumes from the air, and a programmable air ozone generator to reduce odors.
The best solution is to get an all in one air purifier that combines several of these technologies. Such systems can be standalone units used in one room of the home or all house systems connected to your forced air heating or air conditioning system.
It is also possible to buy standalone germicidal UV lamp air purifiers and use them in conjunction with other air purifiers.
