I was wondering if i can take Gold Fish Fri out of my pond and raise them in an indoor aquarium?
There are a mix of small to medium gold fish and koi in my pond and it looks like they're eating the fry.
There are a mix of small to medium gold fish and koi in my pond and it looks like they're eating the fry(some very small, just hatched). I will just use the pond water for the tank. I'm just going to raise them till they're big enough not to be eaten. What should the tank size be?
About how many fry are there? And how big are the adult fish?
You'll want to raise the fry until they're just big enough that the largest adult can't fit it in it's mouth.
You're going to want a very heavy duty filter, as goldfish foul up their water very fast.
You'll probably want to keep the fry until they're about two inches, though you can probably put them back in sooner. You have to keep in mind that though you want the fry to live, you don't want to overstock your pond. I'd aim for ten fry for you to try and save, maximum, but that's assuming that you have a big pond.
Since you're only going to have them in a tank for a little while, I wouldn't bother with the 20 gallons per goldie rule. Fifty gallons would be okay, and you could probably go down to forty if you have really good filtration.
