Watt Aquarium Submersible
Top fin 50 watt submersible aquarium heater?
i was wondering if this was safe to COMPLETELY submerse in water, i was so paranoid trying to hook it up bc i didnt want to get shocked. it does not say anywhere on the container it came in if it does or not so i'm a lil erked about it
Yep, go ahead and put it completely under the water. =) I put mine in the middle of the tank, on the back wall, with a suction cup. That way it's in the middle of the tank, and one of my other submersible toys, a powerhead, beside it. That way the heat is circulating constantly.
And--if you buy a couple of plants you can shove them right in front of it....covers up the ugly units quite well, and my plants are thriving with the heater. Double yay!

Fish like other creatures thrive in a comfortable environment. Part of keeping them comfortable is maintaining a consistent temperature. Today we'll look at how to maintenance the temperature. Temperature maintenance is not only important for the comfort of your fish but for the well being as well. If they are not kept at a consistent temperature, fish become stressed and are more likely to contract diseases or die unexpectedly.
As you can see, a heater is an essential part of your aquarium. But before buying a heater for your tank, you will need to consider where your aquarium will be located. Will it be placed in a room that is exposed to too much or too little sunshine? What is the average temperature of the room in which you will place your fish? Will your fish be near an appliance that gives off much heat?
These are all things to be taken into consideration before purchasing your first heater. When you are ready to purchase your heater, you will have several options to choose from. The first option is an immersible heater. This is the cheapest option for the new hobbyist. These immersible heaters work by dangling in the aquarium. They usually have a clearly marked line known as the water line. Do not submerge the heater past this point or you will risk permanent damage. While they are cheap, having an immersible heater dangling from your aquarium is not very attractive which brings us to option number two.
Submersible heaters are a popular alternative to immersible heaters because they can be fully submerged in your tank and do not dangle from it unattractively. However, they are more expensive than their counterparts, the immersible heaters. You may choose the temperature quite easily using this device. One of the many features you will enjoy if you decide to purchase a submersible heater is the natural look it allows your aquarium to maintain.
If you do not like either option above and have a larger budget, you might like to try out a filter heater. A filter heater works by warming the water as it moves through the filter. Your water will be able to stay a more consistent temperature if you choose to use this device. This heater is outside of the aquarium and therefore, visually appealing to hobbyists who do not wish to use an immersible or even submersible heater. This is a pricier option and you will want to compare the price against the greater visual appeal.
By now, you have probably made up your mind on which style heater you would like to own but you still might be curious about the size. If you are using a small tank, you can use a smaller heater. If you have a larger tank, you will need a larger heater. If you are using a twenty-gallon tank, you will receive the most benefit from a fifty watt heater. For every ten gallons above that, add an additional twenty-five to fifty watts.
