Brine shrimp are really hardy little critters, they tolerate a lot of mistakes.

As the first poster said, yes "Sea Monkeys" are just dried brine shrimp eggs, they will rehydrate and grow out to become living brine shrimp and will reproduce and grow with onlyy the level of care a typical 6-year-old would provide. General Info.

Brine shrimps, or artemia, are a zooplankton used mainly as fry food, but they can also be grown to about 20 mm (0.8 inch) in length and be a valuable food source for adult fishes as well. What makes brine shrimps such ideal fry food is their good nutritional value, their ability to live 5 hours in fresh water before dying, and the fact that the eggs can be stored for many years as long as they are kept away from water and oxygen. Once the dried eggs are returned into oxygenated saltwater they resume their development and hatch. This is an adaptation to living in desert lakes that dry up.

The time it takes them to hatch depends on the temperature. It takes 15 to 20 hours at 25°C (77°F). A higher temperature shortens hatching time. The optimal hatching temperature depends on the origin of the brine shrimps, however temperatures between 25-30°C (77-86°F) are recommended.

- Recommended salinity: 30-35 ppt (1.022-1.026 density)

- Recommended pH: 8.0 (pH 6.0-9.0 is acceptable)

Once they hatch they enter the umbrella stage, during which the larvae do not feed since they haven't yet developed a mouth or anus. They survive on their yolk sac during this time.

After 12 hours they enter the second stage of development and start feeding by filtering micro-algae from the water. The nauplii grow fast, and can reach adulthood in 8 days. Brine shrimp can live for up to 3 months.

Since this article is focusing on growing brine shrimp to adulthood, I shall not address the question of how to hatch brine shrimp.

Caring for your brine shrimp

There are several factors that contribute to the successful raising of brine shrimp to adult size. The two most important ones, besides giving the brine shrimp the above stated water parameters, are:

· Feeding: brine shrimp are not hard to feed. They accept most food they can filter out of the water as long as it's not too big and doesn't dissolve in water. There is brine shrimp food available in pet stores, containing micro-algae for the nauplii to eat. There are, however, quite a few cheaper alternatives that you can buy in your regular grocery store; for example yeast, wheat flour, soybean powder and egg yolk. It's hard to know how much to feed the nauplii, but the transparency of the water can be of help. During the first weeks you should be able to see about 15 cm into the water. When the nauplii grow, the food concentration should be kept a little lower, and a water transparency of 25 cm is recommended. Food levels should be kept constant, so frequent feedings are required.

· Aquarium maintenance: Brine shrimp are usually kept in small tanks, and therefore water quality may deteriorate quickly. Water changes are of utmost importance. I recommend changing at least 20% two times a week. This is to prevent low oxygen levels which will be a result of poor water quality. It's also important to clean the bottom of the tank since brine shrimp moult very often during their way to adulthood, leaving a lot of remains on the bottom of the tank which may lower the water quality. Cleaning should be done at night using a flashlight to draw the brine shrimp to the surface. Brine shrimp are drawn to light, and the light from the flashlight will attract them to the light source, keeping them safe while you clean the bottom of the tank.

Breeding brine shrimp

If well cared for and kept in a low salinity, your adult brine shrimp will (or might) spawn in your aquarium. Every adult female is capable of producing 75 nauplii a day, or 300 every 4 days. They will be able to spawn 10 times during a normal lifespan. However if well cared for they can, as I stated earlier, live for as long as 3 months and during that entire time spawn every 4 days.

For me the discus fish are the holy grail of tropical fish. Food: Parents do not need a good varied diet that provided only about race but aa provide nutrition when they are feeding their young. The large water changes, an increase of temperature and food is often a heavy well induce spawning.

It's a good idea to give young extra feeding small foods like brine shrimp while the parents. You will notice after about 4-8 weeks the parents will be very tired, the fry will also increasingly extremley fast it's a good idea to remove them. This is where many of the tanks and water changes are necessary to achieve a decent growth rate. I used to grow around. 40 fry to just under 2 "in a 55G tank, and this required heavy water changing. The market is saturated with discussions with the fish, so it's best to grow 20-50 excellent fry than 80 chicks. The growth is reasonable but not spectacular.

It depends on the quality of parents and how the shape of fry at maturity. Not much. It also depends on species in terms of apistos and Corys. Most pet stores do not buy Homebred would be interesting for the auction through the local fish clubs. FYI Otos not reproduce easily in captivity, the most spawning occurred entirely accidental. When you finally decide you want to own saltwater tropical fish, has to choose an aquarium. This will be an important decision because you will have to look every day. There are many factors to consider. The smart thing to do is write a list of the kinds of things you want for the aquarium, which you will need and options for each.

The first thing to consider is space. The size of the aquarium for saltwater tropical fish will depend much on where to place it. You can get a small occupying nearly 20 gallons all the way up to a massive size of 1,000 or less. An aquarium is going on at home usually occurs with the smaller end.

Tropical Fish Sharks

The Blue Gourami, sometimes also called the 3 Spot Gourami is a tropical fish freshwater aquarium popular. These fish are usually a pale blue and have three spots, one on the base of the tail, one in the middle of the body and the eye that resembles the third. The type of gourami fish comes itself in several colors, the blue that you often see in pet stores, gold and opaline, and a few others back in varieties. These fish can grow very large and better suited for larger aquariums.

The blue gourami is a relatively easy fish to keep and will exist fine floating flake food that you feed probably most other fish in your tank. However, like most creatures, these fish do not need a little variety and it is good to put some freeze dried blood worms or brine shrimp frozen in time time, just to be sure they are all the essential nutrients they need.

If you buy a fish gourami which is very smaller than you might be able to start in a smaller aquarium, but eventually you'll have to get a 50 gallon or larger than the fish grows. This species can grow quite large and you want to be sure that you find suitable. You must also be sure you have a hot property on the tank as they, like many freshwater fish tropical, require the water temperature is between 70 and 82 ° F. Other conditions Tank a pH of 6.0 to 8.8 and a hardness of 5-35 dGH.

Since these fish are used for water thick vegetation found in their native tropical waters of the Far East, the Gourami will feel right at home if you have many plants in your aquarium. Neon is a handful of school and as such, must be preserved with a community of 10 or less - they get lonely sick and alone. They prefer a somewhat dark environment for some floating plants to filter the light, it is recommended, and a dark soil substrate. Betta Tropical Fish

You've seen them in stores for pets, perhaps even in a department store: elegant tubes or vases or bowls with a beautiful single fish in it, and a promise of easy maintenance and feeding. Bettas are beautiful and captivating, but the way they are sold in stores is certainly no model of how they should be treated at home.

What does one need Betta? First and foremost, it needs water hot. These are tropical fish and water must be at least 75 degrees Fahrenheit or more. More importantly, the water temperature must remain constant. If it changes more than five degrees over a period of twenty-four hours, then the fish will not stay healthy as changes in temperature decreases the resistance disease and can lower the temperature of pests take root.

Here's my key piece of advice to keep the water temperature same: take the fish out of the enclosure cruel, it was sold and transferred to a larger bowl or tank! These little "Betta Cups sold in stores are designed by marketing people, not by fish lovers! Bettas can survive in such a small space, if a ring nitrogen Decent course, but this is neither comfortable nor happy, and the low volume of water is almost guaranteed to fluctuate widely in temperature.

And the nitrogen cycle? You need to seed their environment with some nitrifying bacteria, usually with some "seasoned" water or gravel from an existing reservoir. Without these little critters, ammonia waste generated by your Betta will not be broken and will slowly poison itself.

It is easier to keep Bettas one at a time, the males fight among themselves, and one male and several females may be difficult to manage. Master taking care of one, before you try to add more to your Betta tank.

When it comes to food, Bettas love the variety as everyone else. Although the Betta pellets will for the most part, these are fish carnivores. Try to mix their diet a little with the occasional bit of meat, meat, especially online, where you can buy in many forms to your grocers fish. Fresh or dried daphnia, brine shrimp, glass Worms or blood worms are only a few of your many choices to improve Betta your diet, health and happiness.

How do I make brine shrimp eggs? Where can I get them?

I need brine shrimp eggs for these hatching eggs. But I don't have any. Either I can make fresh brine shrimp eggs, or find some.

Pet stores have them in little vials in the fish/fish food section. They usually have the salt packet to make the salt water solution for them, also. Both the eggs, freshly hatched brine shrimp and adult shrimp are used for fish food. In theory, you can feed the shrimp and they will breed and you can have generations of them, but I am never able to sustain them that long.

Sea Monkeys are giant brine shrimp on steroids. I forget where you get them, but they are nearly twice the size of brine shrimp. I have been able to sustain generations of these shrimp. And yes, they DO start hatching within hours of putting the eggs in the salt water solution (you need a microscope to see them, or a very good hand lense).
