Betta Tropical Fish

You've seen them in stores for pets, perhaps even in a department store: elegant tubes or vases or bowls with a beautiful single fish in it, and a promise of easy maintenance and feeding. Bettas are beautiful and captivating, but the way they are sold in stores is certainly no model of how they should be treated at home.

What does one need Betta? First and foremost, it needs water hot. These are tropical fish and water must be at least 75 degrees Fahrenheit or more. More importantly, the water temperature must remain constant. If it changes more than five degrees over a period of twenty-four hours, then the fish will not stay healthy as changes in temperature decreases the resistance disease and can lower the temperature of pests take root.

Here's my key piece of advice to keep the water temperature same: take the fish out of the enclosure cruel, it was sold and transferred to a larger bowl or tank! These little "Betta Cups sold in stores are designed by marketing people, not by fish lovers! Bettas can survive in such a small space, if a ring nitrogen Decent course, but this is neither comfortable nor happy, and the low volume of water is almost guaranteed to fluctuate widely in temperature.

And the nitrogen cycle? You need to seed their environment with some nitrifying bacteria, usually with some "seasoned" water or gravel from an existing reservoir. Without these little critters, ammonia waste generated by your Betta will not be broken and will slowly poison itself.

It is easier to keep Bettas one at a time, the males fight among themselves, and one male and several females may be difficult to manage. Master taking care of one, before you try to add more to your Betta tank.

When it comes to food, Bettas love the variety as everyone else. Although the Betta pellets will for the most part, these are fish carnivores. Try to mix their diet a little with the occasional bit of meat, meat, especially online, where you can buy in many forms to your grocers fish. Fresh or dried daphnia, brine shrimp, glass Worms or blood worms are only a few of your many choices to improve Betta your diet, health and happiness.
