How much will an aquarium sponge filter cost in India ?

I want a good sponge filter for my 60 liter aquarium.Tell me its approximate price in India (in rupees).Only Indians answer this question.

I don't know which sponge filter u have in your mind. I suggest that u may use Tropi's water filter which r best & costs around Rs 350/- to Rs 450/- . Sponge/wool cotton filter used with air pump is also available in the market which may cost around Rs 50/- but they r not effective. There r other types of filters too in the market which serve as filter cum air pump but these disturb the water too much thus fishes too. These costs around Rs 500/-.

Use any filter once or twice a week for few hours & clean it too so that dirt collected in the filter may not make the water murkier.

My 400gal saltwater aquarium needs two external sump pumps. What are the best pumps for a reasonable price?

The sump has two outlets for connecting pumps and I am only running one dolphin pump currently. I want to buy two new proper pumps that can push the water up about six feet of piping into the tank with a minimum combined flow rate of 1100gph.

I run Pentair Rainbow Lifegard Quiet One pumps (two) on my 185 and am happy with them. I'm assuming that there is six feet of head per pump. Based on this to get 1100 gph you need two of the Model 4000. With these the charts say you will get 1200gph (combined).

An aquarium filter plays an important role in keeping the fishes in your aquarium healthy. It helps to keep your aquarium water free from pollutants which can cause harmful effects to the health of your fishes. Unless you change the water everyday, an aquarium filter is essential in your aquarium. There are several types aquarium filters available in the market. Some of these fish tank filters are described below.

Canister filter

An aquarium canister filter combines mechanical, biological and chemical filtration. It is a unit which contains a filter chamber for filter media and an electric pump for circulating water. The water from the aquarium enters the canister filter, is pumped up through the filter media, and flows back to the aquarium. The filter chamber consists of several filter media such as sponges, carbon (charcoal) and ceramic medium.

There are external and internal aquarium canister filters available. An external aquarium canister filter has inlet and outlet pipes for water to flow from and to the aquarium. Whereas for the internal aquarium canister filter, it has slits for water to flow into the filter and an outlet from the pump. It is commonly placed on the floor beneath the aquarium or attached to the back of the aquarium glass. Aquarium canister filters have the capacity of filtering several hundred gallons of aquarium water per hour. The benefit of this type of aquarium filter is that its output can be adjusted to any part of the tank.

Undergravel filter

An aquarium undergravel filter is a plastic plate placed between the substrate and the aquarium base with uplift pipes. Water is being drawn down, passing through the substrate, and returned through the uplift pipes. The aquarium undergravel filter is considered as an excellent method for biological filtration. The benefit of this filter is that as the inlet is the whole aquarium base area, there is no way that wastes can escape from being processed. There is a large amount of filter medium available for bacterial colonization. The disadvantage of an aquarium undergravel filter is that when the system gets clogged, the cleaning task requires a major upheaval.

Undergravel filters are most suitable to be used in aquariums which do not have big rocks or decorations blocking large sections of the gravel bed. If such big rocks exist, the block plates would create dead spots on the filter. For udergravel filters, it is preferable to use regular gravel substrate as smaller substrates will tend to fall through and larger ones tend to hide huge amounts of debris.

Sponge filter

An aquarium sponge filter provides biological filtration. It consists of a perforated plastic tube fitted with a cylindrical sponge. The tube is attached to an air pump. It draws the aquarium water through the sponge, which acts as a medium for trapping bacteria. As a sponge filter does not have the tendency of having young fishes being sucked up into the filtration unit, it is suitable for use in aquariums with small fishes. Sponge filters are also good to be used in quarantine tanks where fishes are placed for treatment. This is because sponge filters have no chemical filtration which can affect the effectiveness of medications being used for treatment. As sponge filters only provide biological filtration, they are not suitable to be used in large tanks which have higher filtration requirements. This type of fish tank filter is mainly used in aquariums with low filtration needs.

Yea you should get them if you want too.

When they get bigger it will eventually float, so it needs to be broken into smaller pieces to keep that from happening. This plant is very good for a beginner It does not require CO2 or high light levels. It can live in light from very dim to very bright. Your fish may even have a game of soccer and kick the moss ball around in their tank. Its even goldfish safe.

Preparing Tropical Fish Aquariums Before Adding Fish

Owning tropical fish can be a fun and enjoyable hobby for anyone, especially those with children who want pets that they know aren't going to growl or snap at the kids! They're relatively easy to care for and don't need to be walked, groomed, or scooped up after. But as easy as they are to take care of there are some things you need to do in order to prepare tropical fish aquariums before you actually add any fish. Just buying one and filling it with water isn't enough for your fish to be happy and healthy in any way. So what do you need to do to tropical fish aquariums for them to be ready for your new pets?

For one thing most tropical fish aquariums have been sitting around for some time or have been packed in boxes to get sent to your pet supply store. They're usually pretty dusty or even dirty when you get them home; if they're used of course they'll need to be cleaned under any circumstances. But one mistake that many people make with tropical fish aquariums is using harsh cleansers or bleach to get them clean. Any cleanser you use and especially bleach is going to leave a residue no matter how much you rinse and wipe it away, and this residue is going to be very bad for your fish. A damp rag and lots of hot water is usually best for cleaning tropical fish aquariums, and remember that acrylic ones can't be scraped with a straight edge the way you can scrape glass as this will scratch them. Avoid steel wool rags and pads.

It's also important to prepare your decorations and any wood you're going to add to tropical fish aquariums. Sometimes the substrate or gravel you purchase will have dirt and debris, so put it in a bucket and fill it with water just enough to cover everything. Give this a stir and let it sit overnight; the next day, empty out the water and then add more, stirring it again. Repeat this process until the water is clear and this will tell you that all that residue is gone and you can now add the substrate to your tank.

Of course adding your accessories to your tropical fish aquariums is also important. You want to attach your filter and your heater and make sure they're both working properly, and give them a few days to treat the water in the tank, before adding fish to any tropical fish aquariums. Even if the tap water you've added feels warm to you it's important that you get an accurate temperature reading, and that your pH levels and other chemicals are healthy for your fish.

If you do all of these things before adding fish to tropical fish aquariums and then work to maintain it after with regular cleaning, maintenance, and a check of the water chemicals, you're sure to have happy and healthy fish.

You're working with roughly 14.5 gallons and that's really not enough room for all the fish you want to keep. I think you're pretty much full with the 10 fish you already put in there. You're adding too many at a time as well. The tank's balance will be thrown out of whack each time you drastically change the bioload.

Did you cycle the tank for a few weeks beforehand? If not, your fish will probably have to endure the cycling process and you may start seeing adverse effects on the fish such as ammonia burns or nitrite poisoning in weeks to come. Have you been testing your water to chart the cycling and the water's parameters?

I also wouldn't consider putting a male with female betta except for brief encounters after both have been conditioned for breeding. Otherwise, someone is bound to get hurt, especially in a small tank that doesn't provide enough hiding places and "territories" for all the inhabitants. Female bettas can be kept together in groups of no less than three so that the dominant female isn't picking on a single fish. Males could be torn apart by females not interested in his advances and the long fins would hinder his escape.

Angel fish need a very tall aquarium, at least 30 gallons (136.5 liters), because they grow both in length and in height. They are also skilled hunters and won't hesitate to feed on smaller tankmates. A male betta would be a prime target because they are bred for large fins, not for speed. An angel would rip him apart.

Please be sure to research any and all fish you consider keeping to be sure that your plans will work out longterm.

Decorate to your choosing, what is pleasing to you. A good move going to the darker gravel. I prefer to go to with a biotope type tank (not very strict biotope), that is fish, plants, decor from the same region of the world. Some live plants are very hardy and look more natural than plastic. A nice set up could be a couple small java ferns attached to some driftwood, along with some clumps of java moss attached to pieces of wood or smooth medium size rocks. Add about a half dozen cherry barbs and this would make a nice "asian" region tank.

Yes. They don't need much light, so they should be OK without flourescents.

Newly hatched betta fry don't eat plants. But on the other hand if there are microscopic creatures living in the java fern they will eat that.
They will eat infusoria, microwworms, small newly hatched brine shrimp, and small daphnia. If you need to know how to produce those, I will be glad to tell you. Good luck.

what is the best way to organize the furniture?

ok my living room is a rectangle.

i would put your couch about 3/4 back facing away from the large window (you'll get a silhouette effect on the TV if you don't).
Place your 42 " TV on the South wall/ The love seat should go at a 45 degree angle to the sofa on the east wall (also facing the TV.
I would place my aquarium on the west wall , and try to add a side chair beside it.
Side table either beside the couch, (if it's an end table), behind it (if it;s a sofa table), or in front of it ( if it's a coffee table.
You should hang a large painting on the wall opposite the fish tank with colors like that in your fish tank.

There are many animated and complex screensavers which people put on their computers to watch them as their monitor screens idle. These more complex screensavers do however use up a good deal of CPU, and are not strictly a good option for computers with lower memory. Some examples of animated screensavers which are very popular are the aquarium or moving fish ones.

A couple alternatives to animated screensavers, are either a blank screen, which is quite boring, or, better yet, a wallpaper or slide show screensaver. Slide show screensavers display a continuous rotation of either photos, or wallpaper images on the screen, which are both entertaining and use minor CPU power. Many of them now come with special transition effects between each rotating image, which can make for quite interesting viewing in itself.

There are many different types of wallpaper screensavers floating around the net, which cater to all different tastes, including celebrities, cars, movies, nature, cartoons and many more. Some people may even prefer to build their very own screensavers, with family photos or pictures of pets or friends.

So in conclusion, are screensavers still necessary from 2007 onwards? The answer is certainly a no. However that does not mean that they arenÂ’t still being enjoyed by millions of computer users around the world. Computers today are becoming very personal objects, as we interact with them daily, and a screenaver can serve as another avenue of customization.

That's a very good idea to run the new filter on the old tank for a while. I would run it there for about a week to get a little bacteria going. use all the old material you can, including gravel, heaters etc without letting them dry out. Also use some of the water from the old tank to make moving stuff over to the new one easier. Move as much water as you can, then the gravel and decor, then the filter etc and lastly the fish. No need to wait about moving the fish to the new tank if you have kept the old graveland filter materials wet and not let them sit in a bucket for a day or something.

Sum it up, Use as much old stuff as you can, keep it wet and move quickly. Doing this will basically move the cycle from one tank to the other.

How big is your tank? A betta will appreciate just about any plant that will fit.

I keep a betta in a heavily planted10 gallon tank. I have java ferns, water wisteria, a small sword plant, hornwort, drift wood, rocks, and a sand & river pebble mixed substrate. My betta loves the hornwort, because it floats at the top of the tank and he can just punch his way into it and just hang out in there for a while.

The java vern is tied to rocks w/ fishing line, and the wisteria & sword are just pushed into the substrate where they rooted themselves.

I wouldn't recommend leaving plants inside the pots they come in, nor leaving any lead weights attached to plants that you put in the tank. The pots and lead can leech harmful substances into your tank.

General Care for the Freshwater Aquarium

Okay, so you have decided that you want to own an aquarium. It is a good idea to make out a wish list before purchasing any fish for the aquarium. Keeping an aquarium will require patience. Unfortunately, it is not realistic to go the pet store and just start picking out fish. Take a trip to the pet store in order to gather information and window shop to determine the types of fish you wish to keep in your aquarium. Carefully research these fish to ensure that they are compatible for water temperatures and P.H., as well as the food that they eat. Be careful not to put prey and predator together in the same tank. Keep in mind that freshwater fish are hardier than the marine variety, and will be less susceptible to water fluctuations.

One reason that freshwater fish are hardier than saltwater fish is the saltwater itself. Just like any living creature, a fish's body requires water in order to function properly. Water is absorbed through a fish's skin in the freshwater environment. Alternatively, a saltwater fish actually has to drink the salt water, because the body fluids are extracted through the skin by osmosis. The salt is then excreted in the form of highly concentrated urine. Freshwater fish are a good choice for an inexperienced aquarium owner because there is more wiggle room in the water specifications. Some freshwater fish have a variation of as much as ten degrees of acceptable water temperature. Conversely, most tropical fish will only allow about two degrees of variation in water temperature

It is not uncommon for the novice fish keeper to become easily discouraged. Water conditions are hard to regulate and unfortunately fish, even the freshwater variety, are not the hardiest of creatures. Sometimes they do not survive these fluctuations. It is important to be patient. An aquarium needs to run for a minimum of twenty four hours before adding any fish at all. You may want to allow the tank to run and filter with decorations and any plant life for a few days before introducing the fish. Be sure to clean the decorations and any substrate thoroughly before adding them to the aquarium. Live plants are highly recommended in new aquariums as they will help to generate the good bacteria necessary to reduce the amount of ammonia in the tank. It is a good idea to test the ammonia and nitrite levels before adding fish to the aquarium. Begin by adding only three to four small fish. A general rule is to wait another thirty days before adding additional fish, because that is the incubation period for most fish illnesses. In addition, test the nitrite and ammonia levels before adding these additional fish. The ammonia levels should return to zero. This also takes about a month.

There are a few basic tips that will keep fish healthy. Don't over feed the fish. Any excess food will become debris in the tank, and then turns into ammonia, which is toxic to fish. Change the water in the aquarium regularly. Replace approximately one third of the water in the tank every two to three weeks. This will minimize the disruption to the fish in the aquarium, eliminating the need to remove the fish from the tank. Lastly, don't forget to clean the filter. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, as some filters need to be replaced more frequently than others

My aquarium water turned a solid green just after filling it with clean water. What happened?

My aquarium water turned a dense green about an hour after filling it with clean water. I drained it and refilled it and again within an hour it was solid green. I've done this four times and can't get it clear. What happened? I tried putting everything in boiling water, filling the tank with boiling water but as soon as it cools it's green again. I've never had this problem before.

Algae are mostly-photosynthetic organisms that sometimes resemble plants but are not plants, having no true roots, stems or leaves. Algae grow in freshwater and saltwater. Saltwater algae are sometimes referred to as "seaweed." Like plants, algae require light and nutrients to grow. We supply plenty of both in our aquariums, with several hours of aquarium lighting a day and nutrients like nitrates and phosphates from fish waste.

Algae come in many forms. There are microscopic, one-celled algae, filamentous algae that resemble hair, algae that grow in sheets, and macroalgae that look like plants. There are even algae that live inside the outer integument ("skin") or calcium shell of some corals, anemones, and other sessile invertebrates called zooxanthellae. There are slimy-looking algae that are often not algae at all, but a colony of primitive photosynthetic organisms known as cyanobacteria. There are also very hard-to-remove little dots of green that sometimes grow on aquarium panels which also are not algae, but diatom or radiolarian colonies (microscopic, one-celled, animals with hard shells) with algae incorporated in their matrix. With all that said, let us answer some common questions right up front:

Algae growth is inevitable in an aquarium.
Algae consume nutrients in the aquarium that if allowed to accumulate, are harmful to fish. Algae can be a good thing.
The presence of green algae in an aquarium indicates a healthy environment for fish.
There is absolutely no way to completely prevent algae from growing in an aquarium, without killing the other life in the tank.
Chemicals should never be used to control the growth of true algae in an aquarium, and should only be used in rare circumstances to control cyanobacteria.
Correcting a severe algae problem requires time and patience.
Natural methods of controlling algae are the best and most effective.

Algae removal from the tank panels can be done on an as-needed basis, but no more than once a week. Removing algae involves either correcting negative water conditions to control or slow excessive algae growth, or an age-old process known as "elbow grease" (scrubbing it off!). Algae removal in an aquarium should be done only when necessary. We have seen many aquariums where daily removal of algae resulted in fish that were so stressed, most had diseases and were dying. You should never remove all of the algae from your tank. Allowing some algae to grow in the aquarium can be beneficial to the aquatic environment. When algae is removed from aquarium side panels, care should be taken to select an algae scrubber that will not hurt the finish of an aquarium. Be careful not to get gravel caught in an algae scrubbing pad where it can scratch the aquarium. Never use household cleaning pads to remove algae. They contain fungicides that kill fish.

Your first mistake is boiling the water. Boiling water consentrates the nitrates in it causing algae to grow even faster. However, I've never heard of it growing within an hour Wow!

First, test the water you are filling up your tank with. Many public water supplies (our homes) have a concentration of nitrates at around 7ppm or higher. (Bottled water is no better).

This could be the start of your problem.
Be sure your tank is not within direct or indirect lighting such as a window or in a room where the lights are on constantly. Is you tank near a heat source. Sometimes we do not take into consideration a fishtank is near a heat register which can and does add additional temperature changes to your tank.

Did you clean the filter as well? Be sure the entire filter is cleaned and free of algae.

Use a razor or scraper and gently scrape all sides of your tank. Clean your gravel and return it to the tank as well. DO NOT wash the gravel in the tank. The residues of the algae will remain.

Since you have NO FISH I am assuming, use cold water to start your tank. Algae likes heat and light. Using cold water will prohibit growth. Allow your tank to run bringing it to room temperature. Then you can plug in your heater allowing your tank to run.

If you have a stick on thermometer, get yourself a floating one. The stick on thermometers pick up ambient air temperatures from OUTSIDE the tank and can be up to 10 degrees off. DON"T trust them. Try keeping your tank at 72 for a couple of days.

You can also purchase phosphorus pads for around $2.00 at your local pet store. These can be cut to fit with your filter and remove large amounts of phosphorus. These can be reused over and over just remember to rinse them out well when you clean your tank.

Test your water. Since you have not gone thru the cycle process allow your tank to run. This should really help with the algae. If you find your water quality is all your tank isn't near a heat or light source, ok but still getting algae turn the temperature down or off and let it run. You will want to scrape the sides of the tank and do a water change no more than 20% every other day. This should only be done if the algae returns in a heavy form.

Ever wonder why your friend's fish tank is cleaner than yours? Or how come you have to clean twice as much as him when you both use the same products and have the same kind of fish? It's probably because he is using some type of water filter but not just any kind - it's most likely a reverse osmosis (ro) system. A reverse osmosis system will remove a very good majority of impurities out of the water. Impurities like phosphates, nitrates, and heavy metals exist in most water sources even in bottled water.

Many tap water sources contains phosphates and nitrates which is the main food source for algae. When there is an abundance of these elements, algae will tend to grow very rapidly and stick to your glass making you spend your valuable time on cleaning the glass. Copper is another notorious element found in tap water which comes from the copper plumbing. Copper is can be very toxic to invertebrates and should be removed quickly to prevent any illnesses or unfortunate deaths within your aquarium. The best way to combat these impurities is by using a reverse osmosis system coupled with a mixed bed deionization (DI) filter. A reverse osmosis filter alone will remove about 95-98% of the impurities and the mixed bed DI filter will catch anything that is left behind. Together both will remove about 99.9% of impurities.

Another related problem to untreated water is the effects of pH conditioners. With untreated water, pH conditioners tend to be less effective due to the amount of impurities in the water. Reverse osmosis (ro) water coupled with mixed bed DI filtration will typically have nero zero TDS (total dissolved solids) in the water making it much easier for you to pH balance. With RO/DI water, you will be able to use less pH conditioners and minerals for pH balancing than with untreated water.

It requires very little maintenance and will help with saving time and costs. When the filters for the filtration system is serviced regularly, the costs in the long run outweigh any short term immediate bandage. Almost any standard reverse osmosis system on the market can be turned into an aquarium ready system simply by adding a mixed bed di filter. So join your friend and try using a reverse osmosis system with a DI filter. You will be surprised at the quality of water that you get.
