Switching Fish out of Pond to Aquariaum?

About a month ago I switched my pond fish which are plukies and pecos to an aquarium. I have cleaned the tank several times but after a while I find like a snail or two on the side of the tank. It is not above water so I am not sure what it is. Could this have somehow got into my pond water and when I brought in my fish to the aquarium somehow they followed? I did have plants in the pond which I did bring into the aquarium but they were not doing so well so I took them out. Somehow I think these snail like things were on the plants when they were in the pond water. Does anyone know what these are and are they okay to have in an aquarium? Thank for your answers!!!

Depends on the type of snail.

The "pond snail" can breed quickly, eat plants, and generally just be annoying. I don't find them to be a big problem as long as you don't over feed. (Snails need food too.) Ramshorns can have similar issues. The tend to come in on plants.

I think in my tanks either my catfish, or my bettas eat the pond snails, and ramshorn I've tried to establish in my tanks. Loaches like the khuli, and the clown are the best snail eaters. Pleco will often eat snails eggs, and the newly hatched snails. Also as far as the plants your pleco is likely to eat them, and/or uproot them.

Most other snails tend to be fine. When they eat plants it's when they were dying any way.

hello,
my pond is going to be ready for fish by thursday, but my filter is not coming in until friday or monday! can i add about 6 feeder fish in the pond to get it going before i add the filter? ( by the way i already have the fish in a separate aquarium and the filter is a tetra pond 4000 pressurized filter with u.v sterilizer.
p.s it is going to be a koi pond but i want to start the pond with goldfish to get it ready for the expensive koi

Does aquarium salt help to reduce my pond green water to turn clear?

i have small outdoor pond and have some goldfish too and i have goldfish parasite problem and my pond water is green. like pea soup. i am going to treating my fish with aquarium salt. But i am wondering does salt helps to clearn my greenish water too or not?

Use a UV filter for the algae. Algae are causing the green coloration of the pond.
When you use salt, it is good to maintain a 1-3% concentration in fresh water. my pond is just 160gal and i put 1.33kg of non-iodized salt, sea salt or canning salt. any salt which has no additives.

You might have a little more trouble figuring out the dosage, because evaporation and rain will change the water volume more than a tank.

For some reason, fish are very relaxing to come home to. If you have an aquarium, you can find yourself losing hours while just watching the fish swim around. The only thing that you have to do in order to keep it running correctly is make sure that you have the right filtration system and that you are using an aquarium water conditioner so the water is perfect for the fish to live in.

I was wondering if i can take Gold Fish Fri out of my pond and raise them in an indoor aquarium?

There are a mix of small to medium gold fish and koi in my pond and it looks like they're eating the fry.

About how many fry are there? And how big are the adult fish?

You'll want to raise the fry until they're just big enough that the largest adult can't fit it in it's mouth.

You're going to want a very heavy duty filter, as goldfish foul up their water very fast.

You'll probably want to keep the fry until they're about two inches, though you can probably put them back in sooner. You have to keep in mind that though you want the fry to live, you don't want to overstock your pond. I'd aim for ten fry for you to try and save, maximum, but that's assuming that you have a big pond.

Since you're only going to have them in a tank for a little while, I wouldn't bother with the 20 gallons per goldie rule. Fifty gallons would be okay, and you could probably go down to forty if you have really good filtration.

estimating pond pump electric cost?

I need a hand figuring out how much it will cost me per month to run a 3/4 hp pond pump.It is 10 amps,115v.

The way I know of to figure out how much something costs to operate per month is:

* Amps x Volts = Watts
* Watts x 744 and divide by 1000 = KWH per month
* KWH per month x Cost per KWH = Cost per month

whenever I do that I get about $150 a month just to operate that pump......that doesn't seem right at all,thats about as much as my whole electric bill is now and I have a 250 gallon aquarium.

Is that pump a power hungry beast that will indeed cost $150 a month to run or am I figuring it wrong?

Your assumption is that the pump is running continuously.

If that is the case, then at 10 amps you will be consuming:
10A x 115V x 744 hours/month ÷ 1000 = 856 kWh / month

(Note: We have neglected power factor for the purposes of this answer)

A 3/4 HP motor is pretty big. These numbers seem reasonable.

How do I rig up an aquarium filter on my pond ?

My poor fish are anxious for your answer! I have a very small pond in my backyard and pond filters are too expensive. I thought I'd be brilliant and buy a 65 gal aquarium filter but ,(since it's suppose to hang on the lip of an aquarium), I need to rig it to stand at the ponds edge..any advice?
my pond only holds about 50 gals and the filter says it's good for up to 60 gals?

I'd have to agree that most aquarium filters are not suited to ponds...

I'd suggest making you own. You'll probably have some of the things that you'll need. Drill holes in either on of a plastic storage box. Fit an inlet and an outet tube and silicone around to make them waterproof. Fill the box with peices of cut up tube or shingle. Attach a submergable pump to the input and place in the water and feed the output into the pond.
