Reptile Snake Plant
Ball Python owners....?
I have been thinking about getting a Ball Python for about a year now, and have done a lot of research, but I would like some "expert" information from some Ball Python owners, and I have some questions.
My first question is, is it OK for the Python to live in a 55 gallon tank, from what I read most people say a 20-30 gallon tank, and I don't know if maybe 55 is too big?? Should I get a really young one, or maybe a little older? Would reptile bark be a good substrate? What kind of things, like logs or plants would be best for the snake? What is the best heat source? I WILL NOT use a heat rock no matter what anybody says.
Thanks for reading!!
I use a 55 gallon tank for one of my my babies and it doesn't seem to bother her. 20-30 gallon are minimum but as long as the snake can stretch out the snake will be comfortable. Always start out with babies. As you handle your baby it will begin to be comfortable with you. Some that are a little older do not know your smell so it takes longer for it to like you so starting younger is better. My favorite substrate is Coconut husk. It comes in bricks and is clean, organic and perfectly safe. You can go paper towel and newspaper but I do not like it. Astro-turf also works but again coconut husk or aspen is best. Ball pythons are aboreal which means they mostly stay on the ground. But my snakes occasionally climbs so a branch or two can work. Fake plants and logs makes the snake more comfortable so always put some fake plants and logs. hiding caves are most haves to make your snake feel secure. You have been doing your research because heat rocks will burn your snake. Under tank heaters work very well for my snakes. hope I have helped and the best of luck to you and your new pet

Crested auklets are small seabirds that gather to breed in colonies along the coastlines and islands of the Bearing Sea, North Pacific, and Okhotsk Sea. They collected blood samples from the birds and analyzed them for levels of the stress hormone corticosterone Theoretically males that have a lower level of baseline stress hormone have a greater capacity to respond to additional stress.
