Aquarium Plant Moss Do hardy aquarium plants, such as Java Moss and Java Ferns, require CO2 Injections or other additional work?
Do hardy aquarium plants, such as Java Moss and Java Ferns, require CO2 Injections or any other additional work?
Could I just place / plant the plants and leave them be?
Would they be able to live decently?
I'm not concerned with them "thriving", but I do not want them to be barely surviving either.
My brother has had a Java moss in his aquaria for many years without supplemental CO2. CO2 injectors will stimulate vigorous growth IF the light is adequate. Many fluorescent fixtures don't produce enough light of the correct wavelengths to penetrate into the water.

Fish Tank Submersible Turtle question: It's an outside habitat & I have just installed a submersible pump and a filter. How often?
How often do I need to change all the water in the habitat? The water is clear, a little 'goop' has settled and built up on the bottom. I can use a fish tank vacumm for that or I can clean the whole tank. I also replace 1/4 to 1/3 of the water at least once a week. His water is probably 25 gallons and the pump is a 45 gallon per hour maximum. It pumps up and then the water runs through a fish filter (2 layers and some charcoal pebbles). What do you think?
Thanks for any and all answers.
Use the fish tank vacuum when the 'goop' buids up and change the water only when the filter can't keep up.

Depending on the size of the piece you can put it in a pot with water and bring the water to a boil over a fire/grill/stove or if it's too large (and you don't have a pot you want to use for this) put the driftwood in a large bucket, tub, or as a last resort, bathtub, and pour boiling water over it.
As far as the length of time, this will vary with the piece - larger pieces are more dense, so you should keep them at high temperature longer. The exact time can be as little as 15-20 minutes (usually enough to kill organisms on the surface) to keeping in boiling water for several hours so more of the tannins leach out (these will stain your water brown - boiling may not remove all of this, and some people continue to soak their for several weeks - months).

Hiya, I have a spare 3ft tank at home and I'm looking at setting up a BASIC fish only marine tank
I currently keep tropical fish but would like to go further into the hobby.
Can anyone tell me what I would need to run a basic tank and a guide on the prices (UK)?
I would like to upgrade to liverock, coral etc at a much later stage with a bigger tank, but first, I just want to learn the basics with these great fish.Cheers
Filter Pad Why am I getting a loud hummmmmmmm sound in my filter?
I was cleaning the filter pads and the intake pipe. When I switched it back on it wasn't working. Now it's finally working but it has a loud humming sound.
There is no way I could have reinserted it incorrectly because I only have to connect the intake pipe and strainer together and then connect them to the powerhead.
It's an external filter had it for one year now
Please help because I think it may stress out my fish
Sounds like there's a bee stuck in it !

I want to make a net breeder for my platies so they she won't eat them. Is there a way to make one where the babies go down some holes to another small contaner while the mom gives more babies? Thanks!
i tried makeing a breeder net for guppy babies to live in to protect them from the parents but it was very complicated i used popcicle stick mesh netting from walmart fabric section and hot glue and glue gun ( hot glue is the only thing that won't be toxic to the fish as far as the glue goes) even if you do make a breeder net for the babies to drop down they will swim back out of it to the top . the best way i've figured out to buy fake breeder grass from walmart or a pet store or artifical plants make a good size bunch of crowded plants in one side of the tank anchored by the gravel this creates a safe place for the babies to hide the babies will hide in the plants ( this is the method that i use ) just be sure to do the 25 % water change 2 times a week while you have female plattys dropping babies ) cause the ammonia level spikes from the moms having babies hope it helps
here's a link that will also help you that tells all about raising live bearers (guppies, platys, mollies, and swordtails)

Pump Fish Tank should the bubbles made by my fish tank pump be disrupting to surface of my tank water?
I have a 26 Gallon fish tank and my dad says that the bubbles from my pump should not be disrupting the surface of the water and my tank has a lid
Bubbles go up .... so of course they disrupt the surface.
If Dad means "agitating it excessively" ... well ... that's up to you.
Bubble wands/air stones don't put oxygen in the water (probably only 1% of the volume of air actually dissolves into the water),it's the agitation of the surface that aides in gas exchange that helps the dissolved oxygen content. The more the agitation, the greater the gas exchange, the higher the potential for dissolved oxygen ... let it rip.
On a side note ... the finer the bubbles are the more likely they are to transfer oxygen on their way up (but it's still not a significant percentage).
