How to make a glass aquarium?

I have a 2 1/2 foot long by 8 in wide and 10 in deep hole in the top of a entry way divider. I have plants in it now and wold like to make it an aquarium by putting fish in it. It is made of wood. I would like to make or buy a custom glass tank to put in there. Does anyone know how I can do this or where I can get one? I ned it to the exact size to fit. I can't buy one at the size I need.Thanks!

I've "BUILT" dozens and have to ask,,, Plants and Fish together? Hopefully not any that contradict each other.

The space is far too confining for even the smallest fish, and I hope you'll rethink this. BTW, what's wrong with just a terrarium?

I use tempered glass, often as thick as 1/4 inch, and adhesives specifically designed. I've crafted them up to 100 gallons.

The process is easy, and certainly I agree in part with one other answer in knowing the pounds per square inch in the volume of water. In your example it would be minimal, but also an extremely confining environment even for fish.

Certainly then there are multiple other things to consider. Airation, filtering, feeding, space for the equipment, lighting, etc. etc. etc.

With no real offense, as neat as it may seem, please consider other options.

As daylight hours lengthen, the water warms up and free floating single cell algae thrive. This is particularly true when a pond is well filtered. The nitrate content rises and additional food is available for the microscopic plants. The result is an algal bloom and the water turns green.

Ultraviolet clarifiers operating in the germicidal region of the UV light spectrum can be incorporated into koi pond systems to kill the algae and keep green water at bay. The algae are killed when they pass close by the ultraviolet light radiated from the lamp. The dead cells flocculate out and settle on the pond or filter floor.

The UV lamp has a limited usable life of about six months, so change it regularly for the best effect, ideally spring. At the same time, clean the quartz sleeve to ensure maximum efficiency from the lamp. The quartz sleeve separates the lamp from the water flowing past it.

Take care when handling quartz tubes, as they are very brittle and will crack easily. Disconnect the UV unit from the power supply before changing the tube or cleaning the quartz sleeve. Do not switch the unit on again until it is reassembled, because light from the lamp can damage your eyes.

Because UVC designs vary, it is difficult to calculate the size of unit required for a pond. Check the manufacturer's instructions before making any decisions. These pressure units have been in use in the swimming pool industry for many years. They can be included in a koi pond installation to provide fine polish to the water after it leaves the filter.

To prevent them from blocking, they will need back flushing to waste on a regular basis. This operation usually needs a pressure pump for efficient cleansing. The sand they contain will also need changing from time to time.

No, its not ban or anything, what you need to do is to use a aquarium fish shop or importer in India (probably in your city) to help you import it from the Thailand based Fish exporter. This is the legal way of doing it, as you, as an individual, cannot export or import on your own.

If you are getting an arowana, it will comes with a CITES certificate, which is mandatory, and thats all you need to keep a note of.

The Kenai River fishing is one of the most popular sporting activities in Alaska where fishing, as a hobby, is done every year at a big level. Rotting Malaysian Driftwood with Java Moss?

Will I have to remove my driftwood after it starts rotting? I have java moss on it and I think it is dyding because the wood is rotting. Should I remove the java moss and just get new driftwood?

What makes you think the wood is rotting? Do you see white "fuzz" on it? That is just the initial decay as a result of the introduction to water, and will go away after a month or two. The cloud is a fungus that is entirely harmless to fish, plants, and everything else. The best way to control it is by vacuuming it off and keeping it in an area of high water flow. The Moss is likely browning as a result of high temperature (it doesn't do well much higher than the low 80s), or even just adjusting to a new environment if you recently added it to the tank. It's nothing to worry about; you should see it bounce back quickly.

If I use Caribbean crystal ocean water for my marine aquarium can I add fish right after?

I'd like to start a Fish Only aquarium with ocean water which is really clear since I live real close to the Cancun coast. I have plenty of space for a few fish to swim, 75gal tank. Would I be able to add fish right away? Or would I have to let the water cycle?

You would still need to have the aquarium cycle. The filter... the biological media, and the substrate. 2-4 weeks should be enough time and then you can add fish.

You want to make sure that you get water away from the coast as it can be polluted and dirty. If you choose to go with real ocean water you want it collected from good flow and away from boat traffic. It is also a good idea to learn how to make your own saltwater in case of a problem. It isnt that hard to do but still a good idea to know how.

Halide Bulb Reef
What kind of lighting set up should i use for a 72" reef aquarium?

My tank is 72"x12"x18". I think its 150 gallons. I'm looking at doing a reef tank with fish, coral, and anemones. I just can't figure out what lighting set up to go with. I've ruled out metal halide because they are too hot. So what should i go with?

you don't specify what species of coral you're interested in keeping; some species (i'm thinking SPS corals) will need a light intensity and kelvin rating that only metal halide can provide, so i'd suggest researching more thoroughly your potential corals before you decide on your lighting.
saying that, a lot of aquarists have success keeping a range of animals under a bank of T5/ VHO tubes, especially the more easy to keep soft corals, or LPS corals that enjoy food as much as light!

all i would say about setting up a reef is:

RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!
what exactly do you want to keep? can you write a list of the potential species of fish and invertebrates you like? can you double check their requirements and compatibility against a variety of up to date books and experienced aquarists' personal experience?
read up on water quality and how to maintain a stable environment. anyone 'keeping fish' or keeping reef for that matter, is in reality 'keeping water'! you won't succeed with the livestock unless their water conditions are up to the job. saying that, look into the benefits of RO (reverse osmosis) water. most good reef aquarists will swear by it.

always go for good quality live rock- and have the quantity of water movement to do it justice. have a read up on exactly HOW live rock works, and from there make an educated decision onto its placement and formations in your aquarium.

listen to what shop staff have to say, but don't forget their agendas. they'd like you to part with money, and do you really need that item? yes, a £250 auto top-up system/chiller/phosphate reactor sure would make life easier... but... Again, this is where planning and research comes in! remember, a good shop will try and offer you the most honest advice, often not what you want to hear, as it'll be in the best interest to your wallet and for your potential livestock. eg, "no sir, we don't stock moorish idols because..."

no two reef aquariums are the same. what works for someone might not work for you. but by understanding some of the science and ideas of water chemistry, you can try and build a stable environment in your aquarium for yourself, rather than going on someone else's hearsay.

marine aquariums can be truly spectacular when well maintained and thriving, but remember that most of the animals in them, and in the hobby in general, have been taken from the wild for you to try keeping, so respect them by doing your best to understand and provide their needs. one fish in a tank is one missing from the ocean, and that's not to count all the ones that have died on the way.
